August 2013 Newsletter

Dear *|FNAME|*:

Feel for me this month as I am going through a Detox. I look forward to a time when I climb out on the other end all bright and shiny. Believe me a Detox is sent to try the character! So much easier just to take a pill, except that doesn’t work in the long run and invariably one gets worse. Whereas after a detox it feels so good!

There is more information on Live Water Therapy and Detoxification on the Creative Homemaker Blog.

It is that time again to think ahead and prepare for

GRANDPARENTS DAY
SEPTEMBER 8th, 2013

Read interesting facts and figures about Grandparents in California.

National Grandparent’s Day was created in 1978 by Jimmy Carter. It is traditionally celebrated the first Sunday after Labor Day. What is its purpose?

According to the proclamation:

“As we seek to strengthen the enduring values of the family, it is appropriate that we honor our grandparents.

“Grandparents are our continuing tie to the near-past, to the events and beliefs and experiences that so strongly affect our lives and the world around us. Whether they are our own or surrogate grandparents who fill some of the gaps in our mobile society, our senior generation also provides our society a link to our national heritage and traditions.”

The day was the brainchild of Marian Lucille McQuade a mother of fifteen. It was she who built a campaign involving Churches, civic groups, political leaders and local businesses. It took her five years to make it a reality.

Some Great Activities for Grandparents Day

Grandparents love to tell stories. So, get out the tape recorder or the video cam and have a grandchild be the interviewer. Encourage the grandparents to share family heritage experiences. Example: "Poppa what is your favorite meal?" "I just love … now I remember one time when Nana was making …" and the grand old stories get passed along.

Tell a shared creative story. You start the story and you select the characters:

"Once upon a time …" After starting the story you pass it along to the grandparents to continue and weave the magic, who then pass it along to the grandchildren, who create wild and wonderful twists with the story. Finally you have them pass it back along to you to end it off with a happy ending. . This is a fun activity, also great for traveling.

Brooklyn, my grandson.

Our best suggestion for a Grandparents Day Gift is Photo-to-Artwork. This is a great way to say thank you for help you have received from them.

We specialize in collages. You can put all your grandchildren into one picture. You can also do a separate picture for each grandchild, several grandchildren in one collage, or several aspect pictures of the same grandchild at different ages (as in the creation above).
