January 2011 Newsletter

Dear Friend:

I am sitting down to write out my New Year's Resolutions. The crystal mountains are cold, but they are sparkling in soft sunshine. I am happy!

I am going to talk to you about taking the longer view and creating better living not just now but also in the future. Its all about value and quality.

New Year’s Resolution: To create a home that is its stylish best; creating a pretty space that enhances the lives of you and your family.

Like it?

Good. Now where do you start? Well, you have just taken down all the bright Christmas decorations and the house seems drab and bare. Start by investing in one bright, inexpensive picture that fills the void.

I love the whimsy in this picture and it includes all the new 2011 colors with a Mediterranean flavor that always gives a home that touch of class.

So, you have chosen your picture and your house feels a little closer to best home design.

The next thing you want to do is to take a clipboard and walk through your house and really look at what is there. You are going to make three lists:

  • One, everything you love.
  • Two, what you dislike and would prefer to discard.
  • Three, what has become worn and shabby.

If lists two and three are the longest, don’t worry. You have a whole decade to create your better living. It doesn’t have to happen all at once.

Now, here’s the rub: You are going to find some items on the first list that are dated. You and the world have changed while you have been holding on to them.

At Picture Lady we are able to Resurrect Your Artwork and this is one of our more affordable and gratifying services.

Moving on….

Create a Stylish and a Happy Home Office

Have you thought of decorating your Home Office with our popular Photo-to Artwork? Everybody has places they have visited, special moments in time that filled their hearts with joy, and of course they took photographs and kept them. Let us enlarge and turn these pictures into works of art and bring their happiness forward into your work day.

I recall one customer - she and her brother had visited the Philippines together and had a good time. Her picture had two tiny figures on a tiny boat in the middle of this big dull-gray lake. I thought to myself, now this is going to be a challenge.

I tell you, it turned out magic! I learned a lot about color on that project, some of which I’ll share with you in my next newsletter. The Photo-to Artwork brought out three or four different colors in every little ripple on that exquisite lake. Of all the pictures we have enhanced with this spectacular Photo-to-Artwork technique, that one is one of my favorites.

Have you heard designers talk about color flow and wondered what they mean? Look at the picture above and let’s pretend that you have now hung it in your living room. Now what if you were to take a companion piece and place it in your dining room, same colors, similar theme but not at all identical?

What you have done is just created a flow of theme and color through your house. This is good decorating.

Do think a bit about themes as you start your design project. The homes we remember have a theme or color co-ordination that brings it all together, with variations that make each room distinctive, while fitting in with the whole.
